A career retrospective of the renowned documentary filmmaker Anand Patwardhan in Mumbai is a reminder of his dogged dedication to capturing the fault lines in Indian society. The times are bleak, but 75-year-old Patwardhan is cautiously hopeful: “I remain optimistic – but then we don’t really have a choice about this. Otherwise, we should shut shop and not do anything.”
