After Baby Reindeer in 2024, Netflix has an early hit on its hands for 2025. Adolescence, a limited series about a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering his classmate, is destined for awards glory.

Director Philip Barantini and cinematographer Matthew Lewis have filmed each of the four nail-biting episodes as a single take. Written by Stephen Graham – who also has a pivotal role – and Jack Thorne, Adolescence is not merely a brilliant stylistic experiment.

The show is a searing exploration of teenage attitudes towards sexuality, the generation gap, and the communication lag within families. The performances are outstanding, particularly Owen Cooper as the murder accused.
